The fiber optic telecommunications network owned and operated by Palm Beach County physically connects to facilities in many of Palm Beach County's 38 municipalities. As local government entities, municipalities are entitled to connect to the local Palm Beach County network and, in turn, access the Florida LambdaRail to gain access to disaster recovery services and also high speed broadband access.
The City of Palm Beach Gardens was the first to request connectivity. An Interlocal government agreement was drafted and signed between the City and County in the Fall of 2008. Palm Beach Gardens now has access to the Northwest Regional Data Center for disaster recovery. In addition, they have substantially increased their broadband access speed, providing a higher quality of service to Fire and Rescue personnel, city employees and police. In addition, municipalities are looking at ways to leverage this telecommunications infrastructure to provide cost savings in other areas.
The towns of Jupiter and Wellington have recently signed inter-local agreements with the County. |
